The UK’s largest engineering surveyors
Survey Solutions was first formed in 1997 by its now CEO James Cooper. Initially, this was a subsidiary of TA Millard, a well-respected and long-standing structural consultancy based in East Anglia. With a number of years of surveying experience, James believed Millards would benefit from a separate surveying division.
In 2004, the company moved to an independent business following a management buy-out by James. He was joined in 2007 by three Directors; Dave Bredin, Greg Norman and Paul Singleton, all of whom had also worked with James at Millards. The business enjoyed a strong start with its surveying team doubling in numbers to meet the demand for its service.
Soon after the challenge of the global recession hit and whilst the business faced some uncertain trading conditions, it was supported by the introduction of its underground surveying division headed up by Richard Glenn. It has always been part of the Survey Solutions ethos to look at evolving its service offer and this proved to be a key part of the company’s future development.
As the construction markets returned, the business continued to grow and by 2016 the team headcount stood at 70 – five times the number from ten years before.
The start of 2018 saw another important development with the addition of the site engineering division. Dave Mainwaring joined to manage this new service which now allows the company to offer a ‘start to finish’ solution to its clients across the UK. Shortly following this the new Glasgow office was opened as the company continued its UK expansion plans.
2019 was one of the most exciting in the company’s history and we welcomed RJD Partners as investors into the business to support James and the senior management team for the next phase of its journey. In September 2019, Grant Lockhart-White joined the company as Finance Director to complete the senior management team.
With over 3000 projects completed per year, Survey Solutions more recently has acquired two new surveying companies. Manchester based Survey Systems were acquired in early 2021. This followed the purchase of Kempston Surveys in Bedfordshire in 2020. We have has grown from a strong regional business to be the UK’s largest engineering surveyors.
