Hydrographic and structural surveys for rivers, canals and coast

Survey Solutions delivers hydrographic and structural survey for waterway infrastructure, proven on the Trent and the Nene. Rivers, canals and coastal assets need channel data and structural data that an engineering team can design from, and that is a different service from the compliance monitoring we deliver on some of the same rivers. Our hydrographic work on the River Trent and the River Nene is published, and we have monitored a historic boathouse at Lake Windermere throughout piling works.

In-house hydrographic survey on the Trent and the Nene

Our river survey work on the Trent and the Nene is published. Bathymetry, channel sections and bed levels are delivered by our in-house hydrographic teams, so the engineering team gets data it can design a scheme from. Hydrographic survey is a capability we own outright instead of one we bring in for the job.

Structural survey and monitoring of waterway assets

We carried out structural monitoring of a historic boathouse at Lake Windermere during piling, alongside survey of the River Trent weirs. Waterside structures under load from adjacent works are measured and reported to the tolerances the engineer set, so the contractor can prove the works did no harm.

Waterway survey is distinct from compliance monitoring

Structural Monitoring

At Lake Windermere the survey became structural monitoring during piling, because waterside structures often need watching for longer than the works themselves last.

Natural Environment FAQ’s

No. The environmental work is statutory compliance monitoring, while this is hydrographic and structural survey capability, so they are related rivers but a different service.
