CCTV Drainage Survey in Anglesey for Stantec
Published on by Toni Abrahams
Survey Solutions was commissioned by Stantec to conduct a CCTV drainage survey in Anglesey in two areas. In the first area, the objective was to locate a surface water outfall within a defined red boundary and assess its condition. Whereas in the second area, it was to map and confirm sewer records.
The scope also included inspecting the outfall structure and reviewing the condition of drainage runs identified within the site. Working to a high specification, our team delivered a comprehensive drainage survey that included gully inspections, critical in successfully locating the surface water outfall, alongside manhole card completion, high-pressure jetting, and detailed drainage mapping to support accurate network analysis.
The Challenge
The project location presented significant logistical constraints, as the works were situated on one of only two access routes into Anglesey. This meant that our team had to be situationally aware of the weather conditions when on site, since the alternative route is a bridge that can be closed during adverse weather, making this road a critical transport link.
Traffic management was required to safely undertake the CCTV survey; however, the initial proposal was declined by the client due to concerns around disruption. This created a need for a revised approach that would minimise impact while still enabling the works to be completed safely and efficiently.
Our Approach
To address these challenges, Survey Solutions proposed undertaking the drainage survey over a weekend, when traffic volumes were significantly lower. This solution reduced disruption while allowing traffic management to be implemented effectively.
We kept clear and consistent communication throughout the project, providing regular updates and ensuring the client remained informed at each stage. Our collaborative approach ensured alignment with client expectations.
The Outcome
The CCTV drainage survey was successfully completed within the agreed weekend traffic management window. The surface water outfall was accurately located, and the condition of the drainage network was fully assessed and documented, the additional area, the sewer routes were mapped and confirmed.
By combining technical expertise with a flexible delivery approach, Survey Solutions minimised disruption while maintaining high data quality and project efficiency. This successful outcome strengthened our relationship with Stantec and has led to further enquiries for additional drainage and surveying work.
