Supporting Silverstone’s Net Zero Drive

Survey Solutions delivered drone and building surveys at Silverstone to support solar panel design—helping the site progress towards net zero by 2030.
We recently undertook a drone survey at Silverstone as part of a package of survey works to support their programme to deliver net zero carbon by 2030 on site. The home of British motorsport, Silverstone is working in partnership with Push Energy to achieve their drive to net-zero by 2030.
Commissioned for the work via its long-term partner Push Energy, Survey Solutions was able to demonstrate its breadth of experience on working on large sporting arenas which included a range of schemes as part of the 2012 Olympic Games development as well as many well-known UK sporting stadiums across football, rugby and horse racing.
Drone Flight Sustainability Survey
Our in-house drone team and measured building experts initially attended site back in 2021 as part of a client brief which included a drone flight of the Silverstone racetrack plus a full measured building survey of The Wing – part of the F1® paddock. This was to enable Push Energy to be able to design the position of the solar panels on the roof of The Wing. Utilising the latest in laser scanning technology, all data was able to be captured quickly ensuring time on site was minimised. 3D point cloud data was processed to produce a swift delivery of outputs including sections, roof elevations and a full set of Revit models.
Over the course of the spring and summer of 2022, a surveying team from the Coventry office revisited site to accurately set out the block positions for the solar panels. Over 1,300 panels were fitted on the roof of The Wing and the International Conference and Exhibition Centre within the F1® paddock. The setting out of the blocks needed to consider both the complex nature of the roof alignment and the curvature of the individual roof panels.
Whole Project Solution Provider
By offering a suite of services across land, measured building, underground and utilities as well as site engineering and monitoring, Survey Solutions are an ideal partner for large scale projects such as Silverstone where our surveying teams can provide various specialisms across the entire construction cycle.
Survey Solutions teams across the UK have worked on a number of sustainable energy and solar panel projects countrywide. This is part of a multi-sectoral approach which includes projects across all major UK construction sectors and industries. This work was to support Silverstone’s net zero programme.
“We are proud to have been asked to work on such a prestigious project and support Silverstone with their long-term sustainability targets. We were able to work alongside other project partners to deliver timely and precise data for the initial design and then support on-site with the setting out required for the solar panel installation programme.”
