Supporting Peaky Blinders at Birmingham’s New Film Hub
Survey Solutions played a crucial role in delivering the Peaky Blinders filmset survey at Birmingham’s newly established Digbeth Loc Studios – the future filming base for the next instalment in the iconic series. Commissioned by TIME + SPACE, the development spans five expansive industrial units, transforming 50,000 sq ft of central Birmingham into a high-spec UK film production site.
This landmark project forms part of a wider strategy to position Birmingham as a key national hub for film and TV production. With filming scheduled for summer 2023, timing was critical. Once access was secured, our team mobilised swiftly to capture the data required for informed design and construction decisions.
Multi-Disciplinary Survey Services for a Complex Site
We provided a comprehensive suite of survey services to support every stage of the project lifecycle. Measured building surveys were undertaken to produce detailed 2D floor plans and external elevations, crucial for set designers planning around existing MEP and structural features. Using a combination of 3D laser scanning and total station techniques, we delivered accurate and reliable outputs.
Our work also included topographical surveys to define surface levels, access logistics and boundary extents. Subsurface mapping was performed by our in-house utilities team using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), complemented by CCTV drainage surveys to assess infrastructure conditions across the estate.
Each deliverable was produced to a consistently high standard, formatted for CAD and delivered within tight timeframes. The Peaky Blinders filmset survey results provided essential insights that directly supported studio design, ensuring the build aligned with set requirements and programme milestones.
