Phased Survey Delivery for Major Infrastructure

Engineering certainty on complex builds: delivering multi-phase survey support at scale.

Survey Solutions has delivered integrated waste management surveys in support of Indaver’s new facility near Braintree, Essex. This significant infrastructure scheme involves the phased excavation of a 46,300 sqm site, laying the groundwork for construction through precise and reliable survey data.

Our involvement spans three key delivery windows—in 2021, 2023, and most recently in October 2024—each providing Indaver with the right data at the right project stage. Across these phases, we’ve delivered a blend of topographical and aerial surveys to help manage earthworks, validate progress, and ensure the integrity of site records.

Aerial and Ground-Based Expertise

Our topographical surveys captured detailed site models and verified excavation volumes. These outputs enabled Indaver to reconcile contractor claims and maintain control of project costs. Deliverables were provided in DWG and PDF formats and integrated directly into their workflows.

Our drone surveys captured high-resolution orthomosaic imagery using a 48MP sensor mounted to a CAA-compliant 7kg UAV. These deliverables allow Indaver’s teams to zoom in, measure, and monitor works with accuracy—all from a secure operating altitude. The drone’s proximity sensors minimised risks from crane activity and restricted airspace, while thorough pre-flight planning aligned with all health and safety protocols.

The 2024 phase covered five zones by drone and two by total station, delivered over three days with two surveyors on-site. Challenges included live plant operations, crane obstructions, and steep, vegetated slopes—each managed through rigorous risk assessments and collaboration with Indaver’s site and H&S teams.

Where vegetation obscured the ground, drone outputs were integrated with measured survey data to ensure full site coverage. This hybrid approach delivered continuity and a robust as-built record.

Survey Solutions is certified to fly drones up to 25kg and operates under strict CAA permissions. Our integrated waste management surveys are executed by qualified pilots, detailed planners, and experienced infrastructure surveyors—ensuring safe, efficient data capture at every phase.

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Survey Solutions. They were very reliable, produced very detailed Risk Assessment Method Statements, and completed the job very efficiently for us.
