Survey Solutions completed a precision drainage survey in Knutsford—using crawler technology to map deep sewers and support a self-build project’s planning.
Precision Drainage Survey for Self-Build Project on St Peter’s Avenue, Knutsford
Although many of our drainage projects are commercial, we’re always happy to assist domestic clients with their unique challenges. One recent project involved a homeowner embarking on a self-build journey that required a drainage survey on St Peter’s Avenue, Knutsford. The plot was approved for a 1,205 sq. ft. detached home, but a critical requirement stood in the way: United Utilities needed a detailed drainage survey to determine the precise location of a nearby sewer line.
The utility provider’s records offered only an approximate location, leaving our client concerned that the sewer might interfere with their proposed building footprint. To eliminate any uncertainty, we conducted a comprehensive CCTV drainage survey on site, using advanced crawler technology to inspect and map the sewer line in detail.
Accurate Sewer Mapping with Advanced Crawler Technology
Due to the sewer’s significant depth, a traditional sewer sonde was not suitable. Instead, we employed our advanced Minicam crawler system, which provides high-resolution video footage and accurate tracking capabilities. During our first inspection, we discovered a blockage within the sewer line, preventing further progress. After United Utilities cleared the obstruction, we returned and successfully mapped the sewer’s route with precision.
Our findings confirmed that the sewer did not intersect the planned footprint of the new home. This information allowed the project to proceed confidently and without costly redesigns. We provided the client with detailed CAD and PDF drawings to support planning and construction compliance.
“I was extremely impressed with Survey Solutions. Their communication was excellent, and they were happy to answer all my queries. The work was completed promptly, and I wasn’t charged extra for the second visit after the sewer was cleared. I also appreciated how they integrated the sewer’s course into the planning CAD drawings, making it easy for United Utilities to see the distance from the build. I highly recommend them!”
