Haverstock Hill Environmental Monitoring

Survey Solutions used integrated noise, dust and vibration sensors at Haverstock Hill demolition site—delivering real-time environmental monitoring near Chalk Farm.

The Haverstock Hill environmental monitoring project took place at a demolition site located directly behind Chalk Farm tube station and adjacent to residential properties. A multi-storey car park was undergoing a full strip out, and the proximity to residents and pedestrians necessitated noise, dust and vibration monitoring. The site was incredibly compact with its boundaries very close to where the demolition is being conducted. We conduct regular surveys for General Demolition across London and the Home Counties and brought the latest in environmental new tech to tackle the job.

How Has New Technology Offered Impressive Advantages in Environmental Monitoring?

One significant advantage of this impressive new environmental monitoring technology is that a single sensor can measure all environmental factors. This integration allows all data to be accessed via a user-friendly web portal, simplifying data review and report collation.

The small sensor units offered the ideal solution on a site where larger sensors could potentially get in the way and be damaged. Additionally, the sensor’s low energy design extends battery life beyond that of competitor products, reducing the frequency of site visits for battery replacement or recharging.

The sensors are highly customisable. For this project we configured them to provide noise, dust and vibration readings every 15 minutes, although this could be set much lower if required. At the time of writing, none of the site’s thresholds have been exceeded. However, if levels surpass those stipulated in the SAE Demolition Notice, then an email alert will be triggered.

I’d 100% recommend Survey Solutions. They are the first people I call when I’ve got a survey requirement. They’re competitively priced, their communication is excellent and they’re really easy to work with. Our jobs are dynamic and things change, but they’re always very accommodating and flexible. Having the new environmental monitoring sensors installed on this project is great because it means less units were required on site and therefore less power supply needed and less likelihood of them getting damaged.
