Survey Solutions has seen a recent increase in project enquiries where we have been asked to survey flat roof structures constructed from Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) planks. Over the last six months we have completed investigation work at a number of hospitals across the UK.
Following a couple of alerts including a roof collapse, owners have needed to carry out assessments of their own buildings which may have been constructed from RAAC planks.
Following a structural engineer’s visual inspection, if RAAC planks are identified and there are signs of spalling and/or deformation occurring, we are available to attend site and provide survey data for every accessible plank. We can work alongside your structural engineers to provide survey data at the earliest opportunity to enable a remediation programme to be put in place.
Our team of survey experts will provide the data in accordance with the Standing Committee on Structural Safety (SCOSS) recommendations. The data can be issued in a format to suit individual client requirements, generally a combination of AutoCAD dwg, PDF and Excel formats.
We can perform a scan of individual planks, to determine the location of the steel reinforcement providing a greater level of detail into the performance of each individual plank.
We can also discuss with you a maintenance and monitoring programme where we are able to revisit sites on a regular basis to deliver ongoing data and analysis to help flag up any new deformation that may have arisen.
Further information on RAAC planks can be found by downloading the Standing Committee on Structural Safety (SCOSS) alert here.
