Coordinating Comprehensive Surveys Across 20 Sites: Survey Solutions’ Partnership with CBRE and Power Sites

Survey Solutions successfully coordinated and conducted a series of detailed surveys across 20 Scottish Power sites for CBRE’s Local Services Division, managing tight deadlines with a centralised, standardised approach that ensured consistency and quality.

In response to an audit by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA), Scottish Power embarked on a project to rebuild bunds surrounding transformer storage areas at various operational depots. The sites were located across Scotland, the North West of England, and North Wales. Having previously worked with us and as an approved supplier on CBRE’s My Suppliers list, CBRE’s Local Services Division engaged Survey Solutions to conduct topographic and CCTV drainage condition surveys at each site. Additionally, we provided 3D Revit models for four larger operational depots scheduled for extensive refurbishment.

Scope of work
As part of the preconstruction design and planning phase, CBRE required:

  • Topographic surveys: To inform the principal designers of the bunds with detailed information on ground conditions, types, and levels.
  • CCTV drainage surveys: To provide insights into drain levels, potential blockages, and any necessary repairs.
  • 3D Revit models: For four key sites undergoing significant upgrades, helping streamline the design and planning process.

Central coordination from our Glasgow office allowed us to manage and synchronise multiple teams from different locations effectively. With all teams across our national network of offices utilising the same survey methodologies, technology and software we were able to deliver a consistent set of drawings and models.

Given SEPA’s strict compliance deadlines, we had to mobilise resources rapidly. Leveraging our network of offices, we coordinated site visits, executed the surveys and delivered the finalised drawings and models within one month, ensuring Scottish Power and CBRE received the information they needed on time.

The surveys and models provided CBRE with the essential data for planning and designing the bund reconstructions and depot refurbishments. Scottish Power also benefited from receiving updated site documentation for their records and future use.
