Survey Solutions offers both external elevations and internal elevations for all types of buildings from historic and heritage projects through to private residential schemes.

Data can be recorded with a tape measure and disto, as well as by using leading surveying equipment and technology, including total stations, 3D laser scanners and drones. Sometimes a combination of all these methods is used. All elevations show full and accurate building data including architectural details, construction materials, dimensions and levels. In addition to capturing external features such as doors, windows, glass, downpipes and guttering, details such as brick and mortar levels are also achievable.

Elevations (or façade surveys) can either be carried out as a standalone project or incorporated into a wider and more in-depth measured building survey which can include topographical information, floor and roof plans as well as sections.

The elevations can be used by architects and planners prior to any modifications to the fabric of the building or for record keeping purposes for historic buildings or heritage schemes, as well as for cross referencing when carrying out as-built surveys on new developments.

The building data can also be used for the purposes of rights of light surveys. This is especially important for projects located within large towns and cities, where planners and developers need to know the existing building elevations, as well as the detail of those surrounding it.

We have worked on a number of high-profile projects where elevations were a key aspect of the survey. These have included the Natural History Museum in London, one of the capital’s most iconic landmarks, where the results of the survey were essential to the design and restoration of the building, as well as providing a valuable and interesting record.
